Milan Hrabánek, M.D.
Milan Hrabánek is a medical doctor, psychiatrist and transpersonal psychotherapist with almost 30 years of field experience, researcher and university professor. He is the founder and head of the therapeutic team of the International Transpersonal Center Holos (www.holos.cz), which helps people in life crisis situations, in spiritual emergency, and people with addictions.
Milan’s general medical education and postgraduate certification in psychiatry certainly forms an important basis for his work in the field of transpersonal psychology and psychiatry. As the deputy head physician of the Psychiatric Hospital in Opava, Czech Republic, he founded the first coeducational clinic for the addiction treatment combined with therapeutic program in the years 1993-1997. At the same time, he also undertook the International European Drug Abuse Treatment Training Project (USA). Milan’s personal spiritual emergency (1991 – 1995) caused a shift in his career, leading him, after his encounter with Stanislav Grof, to the path of a transpersonal therapist. He passed Grof Transpersonal Training and obtained his certificate in 1997 by Stan and Christina Grof. In 1995 – 2000, he was working In Italy as a transpersonal therapist at the SIDRO /Società Italiana della Respirazione Olotropica/, Center and was also managing in Italy for Stan and Christina the Grof Transpersonal Training. After he returned to the Czech Republic, Milan founded the Center for Alternative Healing Holos in Opava (2000), where he later established the first inpatient ward for the people undergoing spiritual emergency in the country (2011). He has been working on bringing transpersonal psychology and holotropic breathwork technique to the university and clinical environment both in the Czech Republic and in Poland since 1998.
In 2016, he reconstituted the project into the psychotherapeutic International Transpersonal Center Holos, becoming the head of the therapeutic team. In 2017, he undertook the training in the therapeutic use of the Sandplay technique certified by the Expressive Therapies Institute of Australia.
Milan is the organizer and promoter of transpersonal psychology and assisted organizing Stan Grof lectures, seminars, and workshops in the Czech Republic and in Poland (from 2014 on). He co-organized many conferences, for example the International Transpersonal Conference 2017 in Prague, the conference honoring the 75th anniversary of the discovery of LSD, and the global project Holotropic ART. He is the co-author of the documentary movie about spiritual emergency “From Darkness of the Soul… Light“. He is the founder of the platform Transpersonal forum, which interconnects and supports the people and subjects applying transpersonal crossover during their work.
He draws his insights for the transpersonal therapy of psychiatric, psychological and psychosomatic illnesses from his almost 30-year experience in working with Holotropic Breathwork and personal psychedelic experiences.
His life experience gave him deep understanding that spirituality and science, when understood correctly, are not and cannot be in conflict but, on the contrary, express two complementary approaches to being.
